Session Description

It was great to see panel discussions on HR 2.0 and Social Learning at the Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston, but these sessions really only skimmed the surface of the opportunities available to HR teams and organisations through the use of web / enterprise 2.0 tools.  Ranging from social recruiting to alumni management, communities provide the basis for what one tweeter in Boston called Smart HR.

Why do you need to know about this?  Well despite what seemed to be the conventional wisdom in Boston, HR are interested in this.  There were about 15 of us in Boston, and many more attending presentations on HR 2.0 at conferences like those organised by SHRM, HCI etc.  But HR and IT don't seem to be talking to each other sufficiently.

Attend this session and understand the ping points for HR.  Get them on side and adoption challenges will be much reduced.   You'll also benefit from involving your people earlier and more deeply in enterprise 2.0 activities.

What knowledge will an E2 attendee gain or benefit from your session?

Benefits and activities involved in social recruitment, learning, performance management, reward, alumni management etc.

Jon, thanks for your submission. I too see a growing importance around HR and agree there needs to be more dialogue between HR and IT.  HR is one of a handful of very key functional areas within the enterprise that need to embrace and drive E2.0.  I hope to grow our coverage on these topics moving forward. Good luck with the voting.

Thanks Steve.  You can see more of my thoughts on the need to link HR and IT re 2.0 at http://blog.social-advantage.com/2010/07/enterprise-20-summary.html.

I am also seeing more evidence that HR is becoming a key element in E2.0 and think your topic is timely. I hope others will vote for this session. BTW, when I'm asked who should be the single "owner" of all E2.0 and social business initiatives within the organization, I answer "HR", because they are charged with managing the people aspects of the company, which, of course, is the focus of these efforts.

I think this will be an excellent session, Jon and I hope it continues to receive support.  Although I wonder if we are doing enough yet in the mainstream HR community to educate and enlist HR in support of these efforts. I wonder if IT are already more than willing to partner with HR on E2.0 efforts, but HR is still unaware or uninvolved.  Anyhow, I think this session will be outstanding.
